Leadership Team

  • Michael Gordon, PhD Founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.

    Michael is the Founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of USAChina Investments Group (USCI). He is a gifted business leader and entrepreneur, and brings decades of experience in merchant banking, cross-border trade and investments, financial product development and investment management to his leadership of USCI.

    Michael started his career with GE Capital in America, where he was recognized early in his career as a high-performing finance expert. During his time with GE Capital he designed and launched highly successful investment products and led a significant investment portfolio.

    He launched his own private equity business in the early 1990s, which provided business and financial strategy advice to small and medium sized businesses. He has been involved in numerous successful cross-border transactions while facilitating billions of dollars in corporate finance transactions during his career. Through his Merchant Bank ColumbusNewport, Michael was an early investor and mentor to a number of technology firms during America’s dot com boom in the mid to late 1990s, helping them to grow and expand on the world stage.

    He subsequently launched his own brand development and trading company which was heavily focused in Sino-American trade and trade financing. During this time, he worked closely with the Otto Group and Hong Kong-based Li & Fung Limited.

    Michael’s long-held passion and interest in Sino-American trade opportunities led to the creation of USCI, a business that is designed to help Chinese investors and entrepreneurs accelerate their success in America.

    Michael serves as a Global Corporate Sponsor and a former Advisory Board Member of the Zhou Enlai Peace Institute in Beijing, is active in the American-Chinese CEO Society and China-US Business Association.

    In addition to these roles, Michael serves on numerous corporate boards and is active in a range of philanthropic organizations.

    Michael holds a Bachelor of Science degree (Management and Finance) from the University of Maryland and an Honorary Doctorate of Philosophy in Humanities from the United Graduate College and Seminary International. He lives in the greater Los Angeles area with his wife and daughter.

  • John Mark Bunnel Chief Financial Officer

    John is the Chief Financial Officer of USAChina Investments Group and manages all aspects of financial strategy, accounting and operations for the company. During the past thirty years as an independent CPA, CFO and board advisor, John has served and counseled a variety of clients, management teams, investors and regulators with respect to strategic financial planning and operations, mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, valuations and corporate strategy.

    During his career, John has led finance teams representing issuance of $6 billion in Asset Backed Securities and has provided attestation and structuring services on $4 billion of Collateralized Mortgage Obligations. John has worked on numerous mergers, acquisitions and divestitures including a $2 billion portfolio sell of multiple asset classes. From 2005 to 2009, John was Chief Financial Officer for two divisions of GMAC Mortgage LLC – Ditech and GMAC Direct which had revenues in excess of $700 million each during his tenure. In addition to his core finance responsibilities as CFO, John led strategic planning and marketing analytics. His responsibilities included reporting, forecasting, pricing, analytics, information systems, outsourcing and customer care.

    From 2002 to 2004, John was Chief Financial Officer for four divisions of Wells Fargo Consumer Credit Group which had assets approaching $50 billion generating $1 billion after-tax income at the time of his departure. John re-built the finance team into a highly functioning team across six cities with responsibilities for forecasting, reporting, pricing, analytics and strategic planning, and operational capacity planning. From 1997 to 2002, John had several roles including heading the Asset Securitization Group at BancOne/First USA; serving as Chief Financial Officer for FirstPlus Direct; building and leading a de novo consumer finance division at Life Bank.

    John began his career with Ernst & Young's Financial Advisory Group in 1989. Over the course of seven years he served a variety of clients including Wal-Mart, TU Electric, Trammell Crow, Piggly Wiggly, Bank of America, NationsBank, PNC Bank, Capstead, Capstone Partners, Wingate Partners, Lomas Realty, Southmark, Southland, Fairfield Communities and AmWest Savings. John holds an MBA in finance from Penn State University, and lives in Southern California with his wife and three sons.

  • John Lowy Vice Chairman of Merchant Banking

    John Lowy is the Vice-Chairman of Merchant Banking and helps lead the China SME IPO program for USCI. John is also practicing securities lawyer in New York for over 35 years. He is the founder and CEO of Olympic Capital Group, Inc. and is the principal of his law firm John B. Lowy PC, both based in New York City. John is a highly-respected and acknowledged expert in reverse mergers, capital formation, financial consulting and initial public listings.  He is also a licensed FINRA-registered representative with Transnational Capital Corporation, a New York-based broker-dealer.

    As an attorney, advisor or principal, John has led or participated in more than 200 such transactions, creating market value in excess of $5 billion.  He has been instrumental in leading the process by which many companies have reverse merged and achieved listings on the NASDAQ or the AMEX.

  • Michael Clayton, Esq Executive Vice President

    Mike Clayton is Executive Vice President of USAChina Investments Group. Michael has three decades of international business experience across a variety of industries in public and private companies, serving as Senior Vice President and General Counsel for StarTek, Inc., a leading provider of business process outsourcing and optimization (BPO) services for outsourced customer interactions; International and IP Counsel for Intrado, Inc., a global provider of integrated data and telecommunications solutions; Vice President and General Counsel for Alliente, Inc., a business process outsourcing company providing indirect procurement services to global clients in the telecommunications industry; and Vice President, General Counsel, and Patent Counsel for Samsonite Corporation, the world’s largest travel luggage company. Michael is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, State and Federal Courts of Colorado, and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and has been an adjunct professor of law at University of Denver College of Law and Director of the International Anti-Counterfeiting Coalition.

  • Hendre Coetzee Program Director

    Hendre Coetzee is Program Director of USAChina Investments Group. Hendre Coetzee is the founder and CEO of Center for Advanced Coaching. Spanning 20 years and 35 countries, Hendre has coached executives of Fortune 500 companies as well as leaders in social justice, non-profit, relief, and the developing world. Hendre has also created executive leadership programs for multi-national companies throughout Asia including executive seminars in China, Singapore and Thailand. For the past three years, Hendre has led a class at Harvard University Faculty Club in Boston on the Neuroscience of Change and Transformation.

  • James Crabtree President Merchant Banking & Trading
    James Crabtree is President of USAChina Investments Group's Merchant Banking and Trading operation. Jim has over 20 years of experience in international corporate finance and senior management, and is highly skilled in business development and strategic planning. Jim has significant transaction experience in private equity and project finance having held the position of Managing Director at WallerSutton, a $170 million telecom/media/technology fund in New York, Vice President in GE Capital’s Structured Finance Group, and Senior Associate in JP Morgan Chase’s Multinational Advisory Group.
     
    Recently, Jim helped create the Rose Rock Group, a real-estate and infrastructure development company created by Steven C. Rockefeller, Jr. that is developing approximately 1 million square meters of mixed-use real-estate in Tianjin, China.  Jim is on the Board of Directors of China Water & Energy Limited (“CWE”), a company focused on renewable energy development and water technology distribution based in Hong Kong.  CWE holds the development rights to 1.2GW of wind power in the Xinjiang Province and has a strategic partnership with GE China.
     

    In addition to his financial experience, Jim has held roles in senior management at a number of small and medium size companies in the clean-tech and hi-tech industries.  Jim has been an advisor to Global Eco-Ventures, LLC, an early-stage venture fund focused on water-related technologies, and Sandstone Energy Finance, LLC, a project-finance company focused on renewable energy projects.  Jim holds a B.A. in English from the University of California at Berkeley and a Masters in Business Administration from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University.

  • E. Nicholas Davis III Managing Investment Advisor
    Nick Davis serves as USAChina Investments Group's lead investment advisor. Nick is the Founder and Managing Director of VenturePLUS Capital Group, a specialty, niche-focused corporate finance and advisory firm. Nick is also the Co-Managing Director of Shift Digital Media Group, an internet marketing and strategic advisory firm. In addition, Nick is the Founder and Managing Director of CloverLeaf Capital an investment banking and corporate advisory firm.
     

    In a 30 year plus career consisting of accounting, law and entrepreneurial banking, Nick has leveraged his education, breadth of industry experience and market intelligence to deliver innovative, comprehensive corporate, M&A, financial advisory and investment banking services to his clients. With over $500,000,000 in transactional experience consisting of over 200 transactions, Nick has developed, structured and executed mergers and acquisitions, corporate and financial advisory strategies, public and private equity raises, mezzanine financing, high yield debt and private debt financings, sale-leasebacks and various other products and advisory services for small and mid-cap clients across the U.S. Nick has a Masters of Laws Taxation (LL.M.), Juris Doctor (J.D.), and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a major in accounting.

  • Jim Morris Senior Vice President Merchant Banking

    Jim Morris is Senior Vice President of USAChina Investments Group's Merchant Banking and Trading operation, with over 30 years of experience in a variety of investment environments. Jim has sourced, structured, negotiated, documented and managed portfolios of transactions in a variety of industries during his tenure as Managing Director of Ancora Management, a $150MM distressed investment fund; Managing Director of WallerSutton, a $170MM telecom/media/technology private equity fund; Vice President of GE Capital’s Structured Finance Group; and Vice President of Credit Lyonnais’ Leveraged Finance Group.

     

    Jim teamed with a branch of the Rockefeller family to develop real estate and infrastructure projects in China. The Rose Rock Group’s real estate efforts centered on a large mixed use development in Tianjin, which broke ground in December 2011. Jim led the group’s execution team, managing the architectural and engineering groups’ interactions with the Rockefeller family, its Chinese investment partner, and the local regulatory authorities.

     
    In 2007, Jim co-founded Sandstone Energy Finance, a project development company which sought to finance, own and operate renewable energy projects in the United States and China. In 2009 Sandstone teamed with a Chinese partner to structure the first non-recourse project financing of a wind farm in China’s Jilin Province. Jim led the team’s due diligence efforts and the senior debt negotiations with HSBC and Bank of Communications.
     
    Jim was a Managing Director for two private equity funds from 2001-2007, first with WallerSutton and then with Ancora Management. He sourced, closed and managed investments mainly in the telecom and media sectors for WallerSutton and focused on turnaround investments for Ancora in various manufacturing industries. From 1997-2001 Jim was a Vice President in G.E. Capital’s Structured Finance Group, leading the underwriting of over $1 billion in debt and equity investments in the telecom industry. Prior to G.E. Capital, Jim spent seven years at Credit Lyonnais where he led the underwriting and management of over $1 billion in debt to cable, telecom, media and a variety of service and manufacturing companies.
  • Steve Qianghua Shen China General Manager

    Steve Shen is the USCI China General Manager in charge of marketing, operations and strategic relationships. Steve was born and educated in China. A native of Shanghai, he was fortunate to have studied, worked and lived in more than 5 cities and/or provinces in China. In recent years Steve has travelled to many places and have many business contacts and associates in Greater China Area.

    Having obtained his MBA with majors in Marketing and International Business in 1985 from Seton Hall University, Steve has always been a sales man. Steve managed on a regional level several Asian offices and 2 South American offices of a big corporation in metals business from mid west America in 1990's. Steve has also been managing his own business from California in sourcing globally raw material for the steel industry all over the world.

    Steve has been a Director  and Secretary General American-Chinese CEO Society (ACCS) for the last 10 years.

    Steve is very good working with people and have the leadership capability to manage and help manage the organization to a higher level.

    In March 2017, Steve was appointed by the City of Irvine, California as Member of its Investment Advisory Committee.

     

     

  • Sam Qiang Li China Managing Director and SME IPO Program Director

    Qiang Li is a USCI China Managing Director and SME IPO Program Director in charge of sales and client services for the SME IPO program. He has been working in financial services industry since 2000 and possesses abundant experience in capital markets, investment management and and business finance. In 2010, Qiang joined Yixin Wealth and focused on wealth management while providing professional advisory services for high net worth people on wealth planning as well as for small and medium sized enterprises on cash management and investment and financing. In 2014, Qiang founded Jiangsu Hancheng Equity Investment Management and has practiced in private equity investment, stock investment and coaching in commodity trade. Qiang Li joined USAChina Investments Group in October 2016 as the program manager for its SME IPO Program , which helps Chinese SMEs list and raise capital in America.

  • Jessie Cong Liu Media Relations Manager

    Jessie Liu is the media relations manager of USAChina Investments Group. She is responsible for moderating communications between the company and various Chinese and American media outlets, coordinating media events and maintaining company’s presence in social media. Jessie graduated from University of Southern California with a Master’s degree in Public Diplomacy.

  • Dr James Ji Ma China Managing Director

    Dr. James Ji Ma is a USCI China Managing Director. He is currently the managing director and co-founder of Repan Investment (Beijing) Co., Ltd. and the vice-president and co-founder of China Turnaround Union for Distressed Enterprises since 2010, a new working platform which includes three related sub-platforms, namely Turnaround Forum international and Turnaround Services intermediary providing and Turnaround Investment fund. Dr. Ma is currently also a research fellow of the Enterprises Coaching Research Center of Peking University, the director and co-partner of Bon-You Coaching Group and Chief Chairman Coach of Bon-You Ming De Private Board Meeting since 2007. Dr. Ma had been a senior investment officer of United Nations Development Programme Tumen Secretariat (an international organization of Greater Tumen Area in Northeast Asia) during 1995 to 1996 , and the chairman and president of Shenzhen Elake Data Storage Systems during 2003 to 2006. During the period from 2000 to 2003, Dr. Ma had been acting as the managing director of TCL R&D Co., Ltd. and TCL Investment Co., Ltd. and deputy president of TCL IT (Group) Co., Ltd.. During 1996 to 2000, Dr Ma was the assistant president of Shenzhen Electronics Group (SEG). Prior to such, Dr. Ma had held various positions in companies including, STS Microelectronics., SEG Marketing Co., Ltd. and SEG-SAMSUNG TV Glass Co., Ltd.

    Dr. Ma graduated from Dalian Polytechnic University with a bachelor’s degree in polymer fiber engineering in 1982. Dr. Ma also studied a programme in international trade from Changchun Finance and Trade University in 1986, and was a visiting professor in Keele University and studied a master’s programme in business administration (International Economics and Business Administration) in Manchester University, United Kingdom in 1993 and obtained a doctoral degree in regional economic investment from the Northeast Normal University, Changchun in 1999.

  • Shibing Xia Board, Joint Venture Partner

    Shibing Xia is a board member and Joint Venture partner of USAChina Investments Group and a senior advisor. He is the General Manager of Golden Sunflower Capital, in charge of the planning and execution of asset management of the company, making asset management plans of invested companies, building investment management files of invested companies, conducting financial and operational analysis on invested ompanies, explore business development opportunities for business partners and invested companies, including investment, M&A, corporate restructuring, and IPO. Before Xia joined Golden Sunflower Capital, he was the General Manager of Harbin Yida Lighting Technology, responsible for defining development plan and management goals for the company, leading the planning of annual budget, the approval of important and major expenses, and making proposals for the distribution of retained capital.

    Xia is excellent in big-picture thinking, overall planning, coordination and strategic management as well as professional skills in capital operation, accounting and laws. Xia is an EMBA at Tsinghua University.
